It's DBQ Week!Every day this week (except for Friday) we'll be prepping or writing your first Document-Based Question (DBQ) Essay on THURSDAY!. I KNOW you guys can do this and we'll do it together so no freaking out! Here is your breakdown for the week so you can be best prepared:Monday: Today starts our big focus on writing with an activity on Point of View. NO SPOILERS! because after we do it, and practice with other documents, you'll feel a lot better about finding a document's point of view. You will receive your prompt and documents that we are going to writing over later this week today as well.
Tuesday: Today we are going to be discussing the DBQ Rubric and its different components. This includes Outside Information, Point of View, Contextualization, etc. If time, we will discuss the documents and our prompt (at minimum, the documents that are most confusing).
Wednesday: Today is Planning Day - we will work together to lay out our essay during class using a handy outline and our documents. This is our "putting it all together" day, so to speak, before you write tomorrow.
Thursday: Today is WRITING DAY! You get to the whole class period to write your essay. Be sure to bring some notebook paper and a PEN! All essays must be turned in by the end of the period.
Friday: We are going to start preparing for a debate today over one of Byzantium's most famous (or infamous...) rulers - Justinian. You guys are going to start preparing to debate Justinian’s legacy and whether he successfully revives the glory of the old Roman Empire during the Byzantine Empire.
See the schedule below if you need some extra help before your DBQ:
